Welcome to Siberian Cats of MD

What Colors Are Your Kittens, and How Much Do They Shed?

Siberian cats are available in a wide range of colors, typically categorized into two main types: Traditional and Neva Masquerade. Our breeding program includes cats from both groups. Within the traditional line, we most often produce kittens in shades of white, silver, and brown/golden patterns. It’s also common for some kittens to reflect a blend of Traditional and Neva characteristics. These mixed-line kittens are no different in temperament or health—only their coloration varies.

In terms of shedding, Siberians are considered moderate shedders—less than many other breeds with similar coat types. They typically won’t leave excessive hair behind after lounging on your furniture or your lap. The heaviest shedding occurs seasonally: in the spring when they shed their thick winter coats, and again in the fall as they transition from their lighter summer coats. During the winter months, more frequent brushing may be needed, depending on the individual cat. In warmer months, brushing is generally less demanding unless you reside in a cooler climate. Our kittens are introduced to regular grooming early on to ensure they’re comfortable with brushing and coat maintenance.

How Do You Ensure the Health and Wellness of Your Cats and Kittens?

All of our cats and kittens receive routine care from a trusted veterinary team. Each kitten is microchipped for permanent identification and receives deworming treatments as well as initial vaccinations. Between 6 and 8 weeks of age, kittens are given their first Feline Distemper (FVRCP) vaccine, which protects against three major feline diseases. New owners will need to complete the FVRCP vaccine series and also arrange for a rabies vaccination. We also recommend the FELV (Feline Leukemia Virus) vaccine, especially if your kitten will spend time outdoors or be exposed to other animals.
